Two years ago I got my father into ski touring, getting him an AT binding setup for christmas. From then on we've both grown from haphazard tourers into full on nuts. My dad has laid down many ascents of our home ski mountain in the dawn and I've drunk a hefty dose of the Dynafit cool aid, winding up at the cusp of a full on rando racer view of the world. Though this my father has had the Haute Route on his mind, a ski traverse between Chamonix and Zermatt that he first heard about during his honeymoon in the 70's in Chamonix. This year my father embraced the go big or go home attitude and in November we committed to hiring a guide and doing the Haute Route in March during my father's spring break from teaching duties. Before I knew it mid-March had come and we had been whisked to the other side of the Atlantic to land in Chamonix. Our awesome hotel, the Chaumiere http://www.hotelchaumierechamonix.com/en/home) had amazing views looking up to Mt. Blanc, the highest peak in the Alps.
